Inpatient Units
At Valley Children’s, care for a portion of our 13,000 annual admissions takes place in our inpatient hospital units called Starships, a name given to us by our kids when we built the facility in 1998. Each starship cares for a particular kind of patient.
Starship Craycroft is part of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. It provides inpatient care for patients with potentially immunocompromised conditions. This includes hematology, oncology, nephrology, rheumatology and endocrinology patients. Patients receiving ongoing peritoneal and hemodialysis treatments are cared for on Craycroft as well. This 36-bed inpatient unit has 6 rooms with isolation (negative pressure) capability while the remaining rooms have HEPA filtration systems.
Starship Voyager provides care to a mix of surgical and acute medical patients as well as NICU “graduate” babies who receive non-intensive care prior to discharge.
Starship Explorer is our post-op surgical care unit. Many of these kids are recovering from procedures such as cardiovascular, neurological and orthopaedic surgeries or general pediatric procedures like appendectomies. Twelve rooms are equipped with telemetry monitoring for patients.
Starship Apollo provides care for infants and children with acute and chronic respiratory diagnoses such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis and respiratory syncytial virus. This 36-bed unit has 14 rooms with central monitors, to closely monitor patients with increased needs for respiratory support and intervention. Nursing and respiratory care practitioners collaborate in the care of patients on Apollo.
Starship Discovery is an acute medical unit providing care for kids with a wide variety of medical diagnoses. Our primary patient population has gastrointestinal conditions and infectious diseases. Discovery has four isolation rooms to assist in the care of our patients.
Valley Children’s has three additional inpatient units, the 88-bed Regional Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the 42-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the 20-bed Rehabilitation Center.
