As Valley Children’s Healthcare kicks off a celebration of National Nurses Week, we are excited to recognize the individuals and teams who have earned our internal Nurse of the Year Awards in several categories. All of them were honored at a Valley Children’s luncheon on Friday, May 4.

Carol Cobb, BSN, RN, CRRN

Excellence in Leadership

Carol embodies exemplary leadership. Her dedication to interprofessional collaboration has brought improved outcomes to our patients and has been instrumental in Valley Children’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Center maintaining their international Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities recognition. Carol’s passion for nursing motivates her to seek opportunities for innovation, and her mentorship encourages those around her to challenge themselves in their professional practice.

 

Rachel Caro, BSN, RN, CCRN, CWOCN

Excellence in Education

Determined to make a positive change in patient care, Rachel enthusiastically accepts the role of educator by teaching essential wound and ostomy management skills to her patients and their families, in addition to sharing critical prevention techniques and best practices with providers inside and outside of Valley Children’s. Her influence has not only enhanced awareness but has also made a measurable impact on improved patient outcomes.

 

Kristi Crumpton, BSN, RN, VA-BC

Excellence in Clinical Practice

Kristi is a role model of clinical excellence and has made a significant contribution to promoting vascular access at Valley Children’s. Kristi has shaped bedside practice through promoting best practices and has established herself as a strong team leader and a successful partner to physicians and staff. Her heartfelt commitment to quality has established vascular access as a professional practice with tremendous value to the healthcare system.

 

Vandy Anderman, ADN, BSP, RN

Excellence in Innovation

Vandy has made a considerable impact on the Central Valley by collaborating to improve the coordination of care for one of our most fragile populations. Channeling her personal experiences, Vandy imagined a creative approach to ensure medically complex children receive optimal care at school. Vandy’s collaboration, advocacy and innovation while assisting with the creation of the Universal School Orders have been recognized regionally and statewide by the California School Nurses Organization.

 

 

Central Staffing, House Resource Pool

Team Excellence

The House Resource Pool, composed of highly qualified nurses, patient care technicians and hospital unit coordinators, practices outstanding flexibility as they transition from unit to unit to meet the needs of our patients, always with a smile. Their acts of service extend beyond the walls of the Hospital, hosting dinners at the Ronald McDonald House and sponsoring multiple families during the holidays. This team is the epitome of the Valley Children’s Motto – We bring our best, knowing children are counting on us.  

 

Sterile Processing and Plant Services Departments

Friend of Nursing

Through their collaboration, these two teams demonstrated their commitment to supporting essential hospital functions. The Sterile Processing Department and Plant Services Department worked closely with nursing staff and physicians to identify innovative solutions to support ongoing quality care to our patients. Their timely action, thorough communication and can-do attitude personified collaboration and the best in customer service.
