Board certified in pediatric urology by the American Board of Urology, Dr. Daniel Herz joined Valley Children’s as medical director of urology in 2021. 

Prior to Valley Children’s, Dr. Herz was an associate professor of urology for the University of Tennessee and held various hospital appointments, including chief of the division of pediatric urology at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. He was also the director of robotic-assisted surgery and attending surgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and attending surgeon and director of the division of pediatric urology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. 

Dr. Herz brings a wealth of knowledge and research experience, having pioneered funding for various clinical projects. He has shared his expertise in the U.S. and internationally through numerous presentations, abstracts and meetings. His special interests include complex robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery and complex genital and urinary tract reconstruction (exstrophy-epispadias complex, DSD). He has shared extensive research on various topics, including pediatric robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, in peer-reviewed journals such as Pediatric Urology, Journal of Pediatric Urology and Journal of Pediatrics. Dr. Herz is a member of the American Urological Association, American Association of Pediatric Urology, Society of Pediatric Urology, Society of Fetal Urology and the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

Dr. Herz earned his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center in New York, where he also completed a general surgery internship and residency. Additionally, he completed a residency in urology through University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric urology at Hospital for Sick Children through the University of Toronto.
