Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Vini Vijayan joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric infectious diseases specialist in 2019.

Prior to Valley Children’s, Dr. Vijayan served as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention at both Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Human Development Centers for Arkansas. She also worked as an infectious disease consultant for the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

Dr. Vijayan is an active member of many professional societies, including the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America, American Academy of HIV Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Infectious Diseases. She has also been appointed to several committees on both national and regional levels. She has served as a member of the Development of Pediatric Workforce Survey Section of Infectious Diseases and the regional representative for the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Vijayan has a rich background in teaching and research. She worked as an associate professor in the section of pediatric infectious diseases in the department of pediatrics at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2015 to 2019. While at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Dr. Vijayan also received the Learning from Excellence award in 2017. Her research and work has been published in a variety of peer reviewed journals, including Clinical Pediatrics, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology and the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. Dr. Vijayan has also co-written chapters for Mandell, Douglas and Bennett’s Principal and Practice of Infectious Diseases and the Handbook of Pediatric Infection Prevention and Control. Beyond her printed work, Dr. Vijayan has presented at state, national and international levels to groups such as the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress, the European Congress of Rheumatology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

After receiving her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) from Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Medical College in India, Dr. Vijayan completed both her pediatric internship and residency at The Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper Medical Center at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School in Camden, New Jersey. She then went on to complete her fellowship in pediatric infection diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
