About

Board certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Vidya Mahavadi joined Valley Children’s pediatric critical care team in 2023.

Her passion for pediatric care is evident by her many commitments to teaching fellow healthcare professionals. She has shared her knowledge about pediatric emergencies -- including pediatric pulmonary hypertension, myocarditis, heart failure and liver failure -- at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Mahavadi expanded that effort to the next generation of healthcare professionals as a co-founder of UCSD School of Medicine’s first ever week-long summer camp for high school students interested in a medical career, “Camp Cardiac.” She planned lectures and workshops with physicians from throughout the San Diego region, led problem-based learning groups, suturing workshops and anatomy labs.

Dr. Mahavadi is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, one of the oldest academic honor societies in the United States.

After receiving her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Mahavadi went on to complete her residency at the Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She then completed a clinical medical ethics fellowship at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics in Chicago, Illinois, as well as a pediatric critical care fellowship at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, which is also in Chicago.
