Double boarded in pediatrics and internal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Internal Medicine, respectively, Dr. Patrick Burke joined Valley Children’s in December 2014. He serves as the program director for Valley Children’s Young Adult and Transition Care Program, which provides patients with childhood onset medical conditions the resources to transition smoothly into the adult healthcare world. In this position, he works with a multidisciplinary team to guide young adults to transition from pediatric healthcare to adult healthcare, through partnership development with adult healthcare organizations, collaboration with Valley Children’s regional specialty care centers and through process improvement for adult healthcare at Valley Children’s. Dr. Burke also leads Charlie’s Clinic, Valley Children’s primary care clinic for employees and families, as its medical director. At Charlie’s Clinic, he provides direct patient care to both adults and children, giving him a perspective of care across all ages and life stages.

Dr. Burke came to Valley Children’s from the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he completed a career development program in healthcare leadership in pediatric hospital medicine, later working as both a pediatric and an internal medicine hospitalist. He also gained experience in pediatric procedural sedation.

Dr. Burke received his medical degree, as well as completed a combined internal medicine and pediatrics training program, at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He also obtained a Master of Science in healthcare delivery at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

He has presented on various topics in his field, more recently focusing on challenges of delivering high-quality, affordable healthcare.  Dr. Burke has been a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics and National MedsPeds Residents’ Association. He has led and/or participated in various hospital and community projects and committees to improve pediatric and acute care. 

Dr. Burke is proficient in conversational Spanish. In his free time, he enjoys running, photography and music.
