Meet Our Kid Captain: Arturo

Published on Nov. 03, 2023

Each football season, we team up with Fresno State for a once in a lifetime experience for some of our patients. At each home football game, one Valley Children’s patient is selected to be the Kid Captain of the game and gets to participate in the coin toss with the team along with being a part of on-field festivities. For the 2023 season, we have six special Kid Captains to introduce you to the day before each big game!

Meet 5-year-old Arturo. Arturo was born with Apert Syndrome – a condition characterized by abnormalities of the skull, midface and limbs - and Hydrocephalus – a buildup of fluid in the brain. Arturo spent two weeks in our NICU and continues to be cared for by several pediatric specialties at Valley Children’s, including our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Team.

Arturo is in kindergarten and loves his school! When he is there, he excels in music class and has tons of fun playing instruments and listening to music. When Arturo grows up, he is going to help our Valley by slinging his webs because he wants to save the day just like Spider-Man! Join us in cheering on Arturo and the Bulldogs as they face Boise State this Saturday, November 4 at Valley Children’s Stadium!

More About Valley Children's Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Team

Valley Children’s is one of only 190 teams with ACPA accreditation throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our team of pediatric plastic surgeons perform nearly 1,400 procedures and sees more than 10,000 outpatient visits a year. Emphasis on patient comfort and care is reflected in our outstanding patient and family satisfaction scores, where the team scored 93% overall. Learn more about our experts here.
