About

Board certified in pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Huong Nguyen joined Valley Children’s in August 2020 as a pediatrician at Fresno Children’s Pediatrics.

After earning her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen went on to complete her pediatric residency training as part of the inaugural class of Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program, affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Nguyen has broad and innovative research interests. Her research on pancreatitis has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Pediatrics in Review, and her project on the effect of reflective writing on the personal growth of healthcare professionals was accepted by the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare for a poster presentation in 2019. The conference is the largest gathering of healthcare professionals – including researchers, educators, physicians and administrators – and provides an opportunity to learn the latest research and teaching methods in the field of health communication. For the same conference, Dr. Nguyen also submitted an abstract including original poetry, titled "Poetry for Professional and Personal Growth,” which was accepted for oral presentation. Narrative medicine, Dr. Nguyen, explains, is an important component for healthcare professionals to reflect, practice mindfulness, heal emotionally, and grow.

Dr. Nguyen is deeply committed to giving back through community service. During her time in residency, she provided community health services through mobile health centers and offered training for school nurses, in addition to volunteering with Valley Children’s Adaptive Sports program to help children with disabilities engage in recreational sports. She also served as a camp doctor for Camp Make-a-Dream, a summer camp for pediatric oncology campers in Gold Creek, Montana.
