Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Isra Abugroun joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric endocrinologist in 2020.

Her passion for endocrinology is reflected in her research, which includes studies that examine topics such as health outcomes in patients with thyroid cancer and brain tumors. She has presented her research at a variety of events, including the International Meeting of Pediatric Endocrinology, where she presented on improving glycemic control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Dr. Abugroun is a member of several professional associations, including the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Endocrine Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Sudanese American Medical Association. She is also passionate about international health. In 2019, she completed a year-long global health residency where she focused on providing education on pediatric endocrinology to local medical students at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.

After earning her Bachelor’s Degree of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Khartoum, Faculty of Medicine in Sudan, Dr. Abugroun completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey. Following her residency, Dr. Abugroun completed a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Dr. Abugroun is fluent in English and Arabic. When she’s not working, she enjoys cooking, crocheting, traveling and photography.
