Practice Philosophy

I believe that healthcare is a right that should be afforded to all children regardless of race, nationality or economic background. I also believe that vaccinations should not be taken lightly, as they have been responsible for the eradication of diseases like polio. I know parents have a lot of questions about vaccines, and I encourage conversations that will help educate families and benefit the overall health of the child.

A member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Irene Murema joined Valley Children’s in May 2019 as a pediatrician at Sky Park Pediatrics in Fresno.

Dr. Murema comes to Valley Children’s from South Dakota, where she was working among the Lakota people to improve care for the community on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Dr. Murema earned her medical degree from St. Georges School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She then went on to complete a residency in pediatrics at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas.

A strong supporter of volunteerism, Dr. Murema has devoted time to serving community centers and organizations, including Goodwill, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and shelters for at-risk populations. She is also dedicated to helping those farther away from home: throughout her training and professional career, Dr. Murema has provided care to underserved pediatric populations in Botswana, Kenya and India.
