Thank a Caregiver
At Valley Children’s, we know that a hospital stay — whether for a day or a longer journey — can be an emotional experience for both patients and families. In the midst of uncertainty, it’s often the compassion, dedication and expertise of a caregiver that makes all the difference.
Many families ask how they can express their gratitude to the staff who went above and beyond to provide exceptional care. Whether it's through a kind note or a nomination, there are meaningful ways to say "thank you." Explore the options below to recognize a caregiver who made a lasting impact on your life.
DAISY Award for Nursing
Thank a nurse with the DAISY Award. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
Please say thank you by sharing your story of how a nurse made a difference you will never forget!
"Our child was a patient for two weeks, and during that time, our world turned completely upside down. As parents, we were on an emotional roller coaster, never knowing what the next moment would bring. Everything was new and terrifying as we watched our little one struggle through a critical illness. Through it all, Tami was there — calm, steady, and deeply compassionate... Her presence was reassuring — we looked forward to seeing her each day because she brought a sense of calm and hope into the room."
The Halo Program
The Halo Program is a simple way for grateful patients, families and friends to acknowledge an exceptional caregiver who went above and beyond to make their experience at Valley Children’s a little easier. Whether you choose to honor an outstanding physician or nurse, an attentive dietitian, a cheerful housekeeper, or perhaps a caring chaplain or volunteer, your donation is a meaningful opportunity to say “thank you” and help future patients and families at the same time.
You can show appreciation for your special caregiver by making a gift of any amount to Valley Children’s in their honor. As a charitable, nonprofit organization, Valley Children’s relies on the generosity of individuals like you to help recruit the best caregivers, offer the latest treatments and invest in state-of-the-art technologies. By honoring your special caregiver with a Halo recognition, your contribution will directly affect our ability to ensure expert medical care for kids age 0 to 21 throughout Central California, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Through the Halo Program, you can also share with your special caregiver how he or she made a difference and deserves a Halo. Your caregiver will receive a special note notifying them of your acknowledgement, as well as a custom-designed Halo lapel pin symbolizing service excellence. Your honoree will also be recognized in Valley Children's Foundation publications.
