About Valley Children's Pharmacy Residency Program

Valley Children’s offers a one-year, postgraduate residency program in pharmacy practice with an emphasis in pediatrics and a one-year fellowship in critical care pediatric clinical pharmacy. We are also a rotation site for pharmacy students to complete their advanced pharmacy practice experiences.

Since 1999, Valley Children’s has been training pharmacists to provide specialized pharmaceutical care to our pediatric population. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and to creating a thriving community of pediatric pharmacists that is a true reflection of the diverse patients and communities that we serve. Our pharmacy residency program is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists as a PGY1 pharmacy residency with a pediatric emphasis. Our pharmacy residents here at Valley Children’s have a wide variety of experiences available for them, from acute care to critical and ambulatory care. They also have medication safety and regulatory opportunities as well as numerous elective options.

We recognize that pharmacy school does not provide sufficient training in pediatrics, so our program focuses on resident training to understand and treat pediatric patients and disease states in an acute care setting. We do this through a hands-on approach with daily clinical activities on rotations. Residents also learn through didactic lectures on core pediatric disease states that are presented by our pharmacists throughout the year.
