When to Refer to Sleep Medicine

All patients referred to Valley Children’s Sleep Medicine Program will first be seen for a consultation. Once we confirm the correct sleep study test has been ordered, the patient will be scheduled for a sleep study and then a follow-up appointment to review the study results.

How Do I Know If My Child Needs to See a Sleep Specialist?

If you notice your child is exhibiting any of the following signs or symptoms, a consultation with our Sleep Specialist is recommended:

  1. Snoring during sleep
  2. Coughing, choking or gasping during sleep
  3. Restless or continuous movement during sleep
  4. Difficulty falling asleep or remaining asleep at night
  5. Difficulty remaining awake during the day
  6. Behavior concerns (poor attention and concentration, hyperactivity, aggression, or mood swings)
  7. Abnormal behaviors during sleep (sleep walking and night terrors)
