MayDay Health and Safety Fair

MayDay is an annual, free health and safety fair for first and second graders throughout Central California, held at Chukchansi Park (Grizzlies Stadium) in downtown Fresno and hosted by Valley Children's and Safe Kids Central California. The first MayDay event was held in 2005 with about 240 children from several Fresno Unified schools who came to Chukchansi Park to learn more about water safety and drowning prevention. In the 18 years since, MayDay has grown into an event that hosts more than 2,500 students and covers the full spectrum of injury prevention topics. As a special treat, students have the opportunity to see several emergency service helicopters land on the field at Chukchansi Park during the event.

Did you know? Unintentional injury, or accidents, is the #1 killer of children throughout the United States and in the Central Valley.

More than 400 volunteers and 100 agencies from across the Valley provide fun, interactive opportunities to teach safety concepts at a first- and second-grade level, including:

  • Water Safety: Pool and canal safety, life jacket usage, open water safety
  • Child Passenger Safety: Car seat and booster seat usage, seat belt usage, distracted driving
  • Wheeled Sport Safety: Bicycle, skateboard and ATV safety
  • Nutrition: Healthy eating habits
  • Hand Hygiene
  • Fire Safety
  • And much more!

During the event, children move from booth to booth by class. Each group is escorted by a MayDay adult volunteer in addition to school staff. We invite you to join us for this fun, free and interactive event dedicated to educating kids about injury prevention and safety!
