Epilepsy Support Groups

Valley Children’s Epilepsy Support Group is now offering virtual support groups. Our goal to provide a safe space for families to come together to feel heard, meet others who face the same challenges, create friendships, learn from others living with epilepsy and join together to empower one another. Read about our different support groups and how to sign up.

Why join a support group?

Support groups are an avenue that bring people together who have, or are, experiencing similar situations. These groups provide an opportunity for parents and patients to feel heard and understood. This emotional and moral support often helps to sustain you while you walk through challenges and experience difficulties. In these groups you will gain knowledge, learn new coping strategies and experience encouragement while sharing with others. Why walk through it alone when we can walk through it together?

Monthly Family CONNECT

Family CONNECT is an opportunity for the entire family to come back for in-person support options (ages 5+) who have been affected in some way by epilepsy one time a month. Come together with others to have fun, make new friends and build support around you. These groups will provide an encouraging community for parents/caregivers, children, siblings, teens and young adults. By joining these monthly groups in-person, you will be provided with encouragement and opportunities to learn about how epilepsy has impacted your life. You will walk away each month feeling empowered, knowing that there are others like yourself and your family who understand you, care for you and want to be there to support you. We cannot do this life alone; these groups are here to help you build connections.

When: 3rd Tuesday of the Month
Time: 6 - 8 p.m.
Where: Valley Children's Hospital meeting room G150 (enter through main entrance)

Email epilepsysupport@valleychildrens.org to sign up for in-person support or to answer any questions.

Parent CONNECT (Virtual Only) for Adults with Epilepsy and Parents/Caregivers of Children who Have Epilepsy

Designed with parents in mind, Parent CONNECT is a virtual group for adults with epilepsy and parents/caregivers of children who have epilepsy to come together to talk about your experiences and gain feedback from others without judgment or criticism. This group will allow you to walk through life dealing with epilepsy with others who understand where you are in your journey because you are not alone. We will promote acceptance, provide positive support and encourage those affected by seizures.

When: First Tuesday of the Month
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Where: Virtual Meeting

Teen & Young Adult CONNECT (Virtual Only)

Teen & Young Adult CONNECT is a virtual opportunity for teens and young adults (13-22) who have been affected by epilepsy to come together to have fun, make new friends and build peer support in a safe supervised environment. This group will provide an encouraging and developmentally appropriate community for teens and young adults to call their own. They will be empowered to learn about epilepsy and themselves, talk with their peers, take an active role in their health, overcome challenges and practice their social skills. At this time, groups will be virtual but upon returning in person, this teen group will include occasional social gatherings.
