Since 1988, Valley Children’s has partnered with ABC30 and The Fresno Bee to orchestrate Kids Day. As one of the largest fundraising events in the Central Valley, Kids Day takes place in more than 20 communities to help raise funds to meet the most immediate needs of our patients at Valley Children’s Hospital.
Although 8,000 volunteers will not be hitting the streets this year for Kids Day, we have been working diligently towards creating a safe way to carry on this much beloved Valley tradition through these unprecedented times. The health and well-being of our patients and the community at large are our top priorities.
While Kids Day may look a little different this year, your impact to help bring hope and healing to our patients and their families remains the same: patients like our 2021 Kids Day ambassador Elise, pictured above. Elise went in for a regular doctor visit when she and her parents received a recommendation from her doctor for some extra screening because the doctor heard a subtle clicking in her heart. They could not have expected that an unprecedented year would also bestow an unexpected diagnosis. With the expert team at Valley Children's, Elise would undergo a much-needed life-saving heart procedure to allow proper blood flow to her lungs and body. After a five-day hospital stay, virtual visits and some extra screening time, Elise made a full recovery.
Today, Elise is even happier and more enthusiastic than ever. She loves ballet class and wants to be a teacher just like her mom. While the year posed its challenges, the specialized care at Valley Children’s brought hope in an unimaginably difficult time, and Elise brought a sparkle that ignited happiness for everyone around her.
