About Me

Dr. Rajat Sharma is a pediatric hematologist/oncologist specializing in pediatric cancer care, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy and joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in 2025 as Clinical Program Director for the Dr. Vonda Lee Crouse Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.

Dr. Sharma completed his medical degree in pediatrics from Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in India before he went on to pursue advanced fellowship training in pediatric oncology at Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, and in pediatric hematology-oncology at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. 

Prior to his current role, Dr. Sharma served as the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital Transplant Medical Director of Pediatric Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy Services and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology. At the University of Iowa, Dr. Sharma led pediatric stem cell and cellular therapy services where he directed programmatic protocol revisions that resulted in successful pediatric FACT accreditation and the implementation of enhanced patient safety systems. 

Throughout Dr. Sharma’s career, he has served in attending consultant roles at major pediatric centers in India, followed by an appointment as The Hospital for Sick Children Clinical Associate in Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation. 

An expert in his field, Dr. Sharma has contributed to the development of advanced pediatric genetic and immune therapy initiatives and has shared his expertise through peer-reviewed abstracts, electronic publications and international poster presentations, particularly at meetings of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology, as well as at educational conferences nationwide. Dr. Sharma is actively engaged in clinical research focused on pediatric leukemia, lymphoma, marrow failure, transplant outcomes and cellular therapy. He serves as a reviewer for the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Journal and as a principal investigator for Children’s Oncology Group and Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium clinical trials.

Dr. Sharma is also a member of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Children’s Oncology Group, International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy and the North American Pediatric Aplastic Anemia Consortium.
