About Me

Double boarded in pediatrics and internal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Internal Medicine, respectively, Dr. Patrick Burke joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in December 2014. Currently, he serves as the program director for Valley Children’s Adult and Transition of Care Program, which provides patients with childhood onset medical conditions the resources to transition smoothly into the adult healthcare world. The Program includes the organization-wide Adult and Transition of Care committee, the Adult Healthcare Partnership Program, and the Adult Transition Clinic. He brings a broad body of experience across healthcare settings, including at Valley Children’s. He has practiced as a neonatal and community hospitalist through several of Valley Children's clinical partnerships, as well as at Valley Children's main campus in complex inpatient and outpatient pediatrics. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was the founding medical director of what later became the J. Charles Smith Clinic for Valley Children’s Healthcare Families.

Though a Texas native, Dr. Burke came to the Valley from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he completed a career development program in healthcare leadership in pediatric hospital medicine, working as both a pediatric and an internal medicine hospitalist. He also gained experience in pediatric procedural sedation.

Dr. Burke received his medical degree, as well as completed a combined internal medicine and pediatrics training program, at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He also obtained a Master of Science in healthcare delivery at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

He has presented on various topics in his field, more recently focusing on challenges of delivering high-quality, affordable healthcare, especially for medically complex adults. Dr. Burke is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the Catholic Medical Association, and provides advocacy for healthcare policy advocacy, and is a participant of numerous state and national collaboratives.

In his free time, he enjoys running, photography, music, and keeping up with his young family and faith.
