About Me

Double boarded in pediatrics and critical care medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Ilyas Burny joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group as a pediatric hospitalist in May 2011. He currently provides pediatric intensivist coverage on behalf of Valley Children’s Medical Group at Lauren Small Children’s Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Burny has more than 30 years’ pediatric experience in ambulatory and emergency department settings. He has practiced at Children’s Hospital, University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Missouri, where he served as an assistant professor and pediatric intensivist. Prior to that, he worked as a pediatrician at SEMO Health Network, a federally qualified community health center (FQHC) in New Madrid, Missouri.

Dr. Burny received his medical degree from Osmania Medical College, Osmania University, in Hyderabad, India. His postdoctoral experience includes completing a residency in pediatrics at Hurley Medical Center, Michigan State University in Flint, Michigan, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Wayne State University, in Detroit. During his career, Dr. Burny has held various pediatric positions in India, the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.

He has published his work in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Pharmacy Technology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Topics have included medication use and errors in a tertiary-care children’s hospital intensive care unit, and diagnosis and management of acute thiamine deficiency in diabetic ketoacidosis.

Dr. Burny is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
