About Me

Triple-board certified in pediatrics, pediatric nephrology and obesity management, Dr. Elizabeth Black joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group as a pediatric nephrologist in June 2026. Her special clinical interests include hypertension and obesity.

Dr. Black holds various leadership and faculty positions in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco and the University of California, Merced. She has earned accolades for her teaching and mentorship; most recently, Dr. Black was awarded the Academy of Medical Educators Excellence in Teaching Award and the Teaching Award from the UCSF Fresno Department of Pediatrics.

She enjoys medical education and has participated in many undergraduate and graduate medical education committees with UCSF Fresno’s Department of Pediatrics, in addition to serving as an advisor with UCSF Fresno’s Specialty Advising group, which provides career guidance for medical students.

Dr. Black is a member of American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology, the American Kidney Foundation, and the Council of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics.

In addition to her clinical duties, Dr. Black regularly contributes to scholarly work in her field. She has presented her scholarly work locally, regionally, and nationally and has served as an ad hoc referee for several academic publications, including Pediatrics, Kidney360, and Pediatric Nephrology.

Dr. Black completed her medical degree at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Zapopan, Mexico. She went on to complete her pediatric residency training at the University of California, San Francisco - Fresno, and her fellowship at the University of California, where she also earned a Master of Advanced Studies in clinical research.

Beyond her role as a physician, Dr. Black is committed to supporting the next generation of health career professionals in the Central Valley. She has volunteered with several local organizations and programs, including the Fresno Youth Health Corps, Doctor's Academy, and Kidz MedEd Tiered Medical Mentoring for College and Medical Students. She is the founding Director of Baccalaureate Mentoring for the UC Merced Department of Medical Education.
