About Me

Dr. Kerrilynn Rice is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group as a pediatric hospitalist in 2019. She is board certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Dr. Rice enjoys caring for children from birth to early adulthood, and has a passion for advocating for children and families of children who are admitted to the hospital.

In her current role, Dr. Rice serves in a number of roles within the Pediatric Residency Program and Graduate Medical Education. She is the Associate Program Director for the Valley Children’s Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship Program. She is also an Academic Coach for Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program and an Assistant Professor (Affiliated) in the Department of Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine at Stanford University. 

Dr. Rice’s scholarly interests include health advocacy, quality improvement, medical education, health equity, and inclusion. In addition to her advocacy and health equity work, Dr. Rice has conducted research in the areas of childhood obesity, child abuse prevention, and adolescent health. She has worked on quality improvement projects to improve care for febrile infants, pediatric patients with bronchiolitis and asthma, and to better care for patients who first language is one other than English. She has presented her research and lead workshops at several national pediatric conferences. Her research has been published in peer reviewed journals, including Clinical Pediatrics, MedEdPORTAL, and the Harvard Public Health Review.

Dr. Rice completed her pediatric residency at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. She completed her medical degree at the University of California San Francisco. At UCSF she also completed curriculum in the Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US) program. She earned her Master’s degree in Public Health, with a concentration in Child and Maternal Health, from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

"As a pediatric physician I aspire to provide high quality, family centered, and culturally competent care to all of my patients. I believe that care should be collaborative with family members and all healthcare providers, as well as compassionate. I am committed to being an advocate for the best healthcare for all patients, promoting health equity, and helping to train future generations of excellent pediatric healthcare providers."
