Sofia Davis, DO

Dr. Sofia DavisWhy did you choose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency?
I chose Valley Children’s after completing a medical school rotation here in my 4th year of medical school. I instantly felt so supported by the residents and attendings and their enthusiasm and joy for their profession was infectious! I could tell that they cared deeply for their patients and their communities and they modeled the type of pediatrician I hope to become. There are a wide variety of cases and education is at the forefront of the program, so I knew that I would be able to learn and grow through my training here. I am so excited to be a part of the team!

Hobbies:
I love to bake, especially pies. I am currently working my way through a cookbook that has a recipe for a pie in honor of every state. I also enjoy spending time outside, either at the beach or on a hike. I love to travel, both within our amazing state and abroad. Most recently, I visited friends in England and France at the end of medical school. But more often than not, I can be found reading or watching Golden Girls reruns.

Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments:
Prior to medical school, I completed a Master's in Public Health program with a concentration in Health Promotion & Health Education. During my graduate program, I completed research reviewing the efficacy of various interventions for type 2 diabetes for Hispanic populations. During medical school, I worked on a project that investigated the potential for new TB drug options. I hope to continue bolstering my research skills throughout residency and using my public health background to advocate for the health of all children and their families in our community.

Care Philosophy:
Being a pediatrician is a great privilege and one that I do not take lightly. My care philosophy involves partnering with patients and their families to provide the best care possible that is tailored to the specific social and cultural needs of each patient. We get to care for patients in happy moments and very difficult ones, and I hope to be a source of comfort and encouragement for the families I work with. I will strive each and every day to help improve the health and wellbeing of my patients and my community as a whole.
