Why did you choose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency?
Central Valley is my home. It’s where I grew up and where I hoped to serve as a physician one day. When I had the opportunity to do a rotation at VCH’s NICU, I was thrilled! I had such a wonderful experience. The team of attendings, residents, nurses and RTs I worked with were amazing teachers. The hands-on experiences helped me learn so much about the type of physician I wanted to be for my patients and led me to have such meaningful interactions with my patients and their families. This experience encouraged me to pursue another opportunity to rotate here at the pediatric GI clinic, which was a rewarding experience as well! The guidance I received from the attendings, NPs and residents and the relief I saw patients and their families experiencing from receiving high-quality care further confirmed that this was the program for me. I am extremely grateful to have this opportunity to serve my community and be at a program dedicated to improving children’s health and well-being.
Hobbies:
Currently, my hobbies include junk journaling, sewing and vegan baking. I enjoy exploring local cafes, learning new dance routines and singing as well, especially with my friends. I also love watching anime and musicals. My favorite way to relax though, is spending time with my family and friends.
Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments:
My ongoing research project pertains to understanding how Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) impact children’s health, our role as providers in addressing this and identifying/addressing the barriers there are to providing this level of care. Since high school I have been tutoring children, whether through my local Jubilee center or structured programs at my medical school. These experiences have helped me become a better advocate for my community on a local level as we built health education days where we taught children about healthy eating habits.
Care Philosophy:
My care philosophy centers on building relationships with my patients and their families by remaining compassionate and open-minded and providing individualized care. Advocacy is a core part of this, and I work to make sure my patients are heard, supported and understood. By embracing joy, curiosity and a little bit of magic I hope to create comforting and meaningful connections with every child I care for.
