Ayesha Dhar, DO

Dr. Ayesha DharWhy did you choose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency?
From the moment I rotated through Valley Children’s, I felt a strong sense of alignment not only with the clinical training, but with the values, culture and people that make this program so special. The emphasis on compassionate, family-centered care, meaningful mentorship and serving diverse patient populations deeply resonated with me. At the same time, the supportive teaching environment and strong sense of resident camaraderie made me feel genuinely welcomed, valued and encouraged to grow both personally and professionally. The program’s collaborative atmosphere and commitment to active learning closely reflect the kind of pediatrician I aspire to become; someone clinically strong, empathetic and deeply committed to advocating for children and their families. Thus, choosing Valley Children’s as my home for the next three years became one of the easiest and most meaningful decisions I have made.

Hobbies:
In my free time, I enjoy staying active through Pilates workouts, going on nature walks with my friends and creatively expressing myself through art. I also love getting lost in a good sci-fi/fantasy/fiction novel. Some of my favorite moments are the simple ones spent with my family; whether it is cooking with my mom and watching Bollywood films together or watching the latest murder mystery shows with my dad while we jokingly act as “private detectives.” I cherish these experiences deeply as they remind me to appreciate the people around me and find joy in life’s simple moments.

Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments:
My research and advocacy efforts have primarily focused on health education, mental wellbeing and improving healthcare outcomes for underserved populations in the Central Valley. During medical school, I participated in research evaluating whether patient education could improve COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among pediatric populations, while also advocating for pediatric mental and emotional wellbeing through school and community outreach initiatives. Prior to medical school, my research examined how biological and bioenergetic factors, including physical health and mitochondrial function, may influence stress, emotional wellbeing and positive affect across different stages of life. These experiences strengthened my passion for understanding the connection between physical and mental health and reinforced my commitment to compassionate, holistic patient care.

Care Philosophy:
My care philosophy is rooted in compassion, empathy and the belief that medicine is about far more than treating disease alone. Through my experiences in teaching and pediatrics, I have learned the importance of building meaningful relationships with patients and families, celebrating small victories and providing comfort during life’s most difficult moments. Whether through clinical problem-solving, supporting families through uncertainty or simply offering a quiet presence during grief, I strive to approach every patient with kindness, understanding and genuine human connection. I believe that even small acts of empathy and support can leave a lasting impact, and I hope to carry that mindset with me throughout my career in pediatrics.
