Arathi Vinod, DO

Dr. Arathi VinodWhy did you choose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency?
One of the biggest factors that brought me to pediatrics and to medicine in the first place was a desire to help the helpless and guide those who couldn’t speak up for themselves. Knowing that a crucial mission at Valley Children’s is to advocate for underserved populations, I was already drawn to this program. It wasn’t until completing two sub-internship rotations here that I saw firsthand the other perks of this program: the supportive faculty and the camaraderie among residents. I couldn’t wait to join this talented group of physicians and give back to the California communities that raised me!

Hobbies:
I am a big lover of the arts, from drawing and painting to playing musical instruments. In my spare time, I love trying out new recipes, watching thriller/sci-fi movies and curling up with a good book.

Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments:
Preventive care has always been important to me and it’s even more important in pediatrics because early interventions are so crucial in determining long-term health. In the past, I have most enjoyed projects that immerse me in the communities I work with, from teaching children the science behind exercise with Project HAPPY to creating nutritious yet fun recipes for families located in food deserts with COPE. My research endeavors have focused on education; I explored patient education by initiating a study investigating how families of children with disabilities navigate the healthcare system, while my research on GenAI policies in US osteopathic medical schools examined the future of medical education.

Care Philosophy:
Part of what makes a good pediatrician is their ability to be a good teacher. Empowering children and their families with the right tools and knowledge can make all the difference in helping them make the choices that lead to a healthy life. As a pediatrician, it is a big responsibility to work with such fragile young lives, but it's also such a privilege to be able to influence them for the rest of their lives.
