Valley Children’s Residency Program Welcomes Inaugural Class

Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program, Affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine officially welcomed our first-ever resident class on Tuesday, June 20.

This is a vital and celebratory step for our organization as we move toward training and retaining our very own pediatricians, ones who will work and advocate for the 1.3 million children in our services area. This is a critical milestone as the program strives to help alleviate our area’s physician shortage, and in turn keep our kids healthy as they grow into adulthood.

The Valley is one of the most medically underserved areas in the country, according to the Medical Board of California. It is also one of the poorest. Those facts are major contributors to the Central Valley having some of the country’s unhealthiest children, with afflictions like asthma and obesity, among others, proving to be significant long-term problems.

The start of Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program is the next step in our network providing high-quality, comprehensive, compassionate care in our communities.
