Valley Children's Makes an Impact with the Help of St. Baldrick's

Our mission at Valley Children’s has always been to provide the best quality care for our patients. In order to achieve this, we aim to hire the best of the best, continue to learn about new technologies and techniques and team up with incredible partner organizations that share our mission and help us provide top-level care.

We are proud to announce we are furthering our commitment to our patients and their care with the help of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Valley Children’s was one of the 24 institutions selected to receive a grant aimed at bolstering pediatric cancer clinical trial enrollment. Clinical trials are critical in the fight against childhood cancer, and we are proud to conduct this clinical research to help further the level of care we provide for our oncology patients.

Over $1.1 million in grants were given to institutions throughout the U.S. to support these crucial efforts in clinical research. “These grants are extraordinary because they support these necessary roles to ensure more kids get treated on a clinical trial, often their best hope for a cure. We are honored to be able to provide these grants thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, supporters and donors to truly make substantial efforts in providing more insight into childhood cancers and how the best care can be provided to patients like the ones at Valley Children’s Healthcare.” said St. Baldrick’s Senior Marketing and PR Specialist, Jo Anne Avelar.

“It is truly an honor for me to accept this grant on behalf of Valley Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center,” Valley Children’s Hematologist and Oncologist Dr. Karen Fernandez says. “The clinical trials we can continue to conduct with this grant will further our mission of creating better futures for our children, offering hope for a life after cancer with fewer side effects. Our kids are counting on us and thanks to St. Baldrick’s, this vital work can continue.”

We thank St. Baldrick's for their continued support and Dr. Karen Fernandez for leading these vital efforts for our hospital.
