New volunteer opportunity in Bakersfield! We are currently accepting applications for Eagle Oaks Specialty Care Center in Bakersfield. We are looking for caring individuals to provide a warm and welcoming experience for our patients and families while they are visiting Eagle Oaks. Volunteers are needed to:

  • Serve as greeters at the main entrance and help escort families to their appointments
  • Promote literacy efforts and encourage a love for books through storytelling and serving as a Book Buddy

Shifts of 2 or 3 hours are available on weekdays only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Upon receipt of your application, a volunteer team member will contact you to discuss the  two roles in more detail with you  to determine your preference.  


Volunteer Opportunities

The majority of our volunteers work directly with patients playing games, reading books, delivering crafts, and movies or assisting with arts and crafts at the bedside or in the hospital playrooms. There are also opportunities available with little or no patient care where volunteers help in our various clinics and offices, in the Gift Shop or at the information desks as greeters. 

Classroom Volunteer

AVAILABILITY:  WEEKDAYS; 9:30AM - 12PM
Read stories or assist the teacher in providing an educational setting for inpatients during their hospital stay.

Clinic Pals (Literacy Volunteer/Book Buddy) - Eagle Oaks Specialty Care Center, Bakersfield

AVAILABILITY: MONDAY - FRIDAY; Between 8AM -  5PM; 2 & 3 HOUR SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Act as host/hostess in our clinics, entertaining patients and siblings with storytelling, visiting with families and much more! 

Chaplain Aide Program

AVAILABILITY: VARIES
Provide spiritual support services to patients and families under the supervision of the staff chaplain (training provided). (Adults Only – Currently recruiting Eucharistic ministers)

Gift Shop Volunteer

AVAILABILITY: WEEKDAYS; 9:30AM - 1PM; 1PM - 4:30PM; 4:30PM - 6PM
WEEKENDS:  11AM - 3PM
Assist customers in selecting the perfect gift, wrapping, stocking shelves, and providing cashiering services. 
(Must be 18 years of age or older)

"George" the Mascot

AVAILABILITY: VARIES
Volunteers are needed to make an appearance as "George" at various on or off-site events. Training and costume provided.

Greeters

AVAILABILITY:  
MONDAY - SUNDAY; 8AM - 8PM; 3 - 4 HOUR SHIFT (Valley Children's Hospital)
MONDAY - FRIDAY; 8AM – 5PM; 2 & 3 HOUR SHIFTS AVAILABLE (Eagle Oaks Specialty Care Center, Bakersfield)
Act as host/hostess, providing information, escort services and smiles to our visitors and families.

Oncology Clinic

AVAILABILITY: WEEKDAYS 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Volunteers are needed to assist our clinic staff in interacting with families and patients, arts and craft projects, playing games, reading and much more!

Patient Pals

AVAILABILITY: WEEKDAYS; 9:30AM - 12PM; 11PM-2PM; 2PM - 5PM; 6PM - 8PM
WEEKENDS; 9:30AM - 12PM; 11PM-2PM, 2PM - 5PM

Work alongside Child Life Staff in the playroom assisting with various activities and arts and crafts projects or  provide support to clinical staff by holding and rocking babies, entertaining patients in their rooms, scrap booking, providing patient pampering, transporting patients or items, assisting at nursing stations, visiting with families and much more!  (Monday-Friday from 9:30 AM to 12 PM is infant and toddler time only in the Playroom.)

Ronald McDonald Happy Wheels Cart

AVAILABILITY: TUESDAYS 2:00 - 5:00 PM and/or THURSDAYS 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Volunteers are needed to push a hospitality cart out to our units for family members to enjoy complimentary comfort items while sitting bed side. This cart will need to be stocked and restocked with items and a log sheet will be completed for tracking purposes. Volunteers will work in teams of two and will need to be able to walk, lift, push cart and provide great customer service.

Short Term Clerical

AVAILABILITY: WEEKDAYS VARIES DEPENDING ON PROJECT
Volunteers are needed to assist various departments throughout the year on short term projects that could include, but are not limited to: mailings, collating, packet making, clothes closet reorganization, various events, etc.

S.P.O.T (Special Pets Offering TLC)

AVAILABILITY: MONDAY - SUNDAY; MORNINGS, AFTERNOONS & EVENINGS
Canines and their owners visit patients to provide pet assisted activities known to contribute to the healing of sick and injured children. (Must be 18 years of age or older)
