Ranked as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report, our neurology department provides diagnostic services, medical treatment, and follow-up care to infants, children, and adolescents who have suspected or confirmed neurological disorders.
Our board-certified neurologists and epileptologists manage and treat a variety of patients, including those with seizures, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders and other neurologic conditions.
Valley Children's Hospital is also accredited by the NAEC as a level 4 epilepsy center. Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide high-level, comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Treatments and Medications
Valley Children’s neuroscience center specializes in a variety of treatments and medications to best fit the individual patient’s needs. Some of our treatments include:
- Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS): Vagus nerve stimulation is a medical treatment where a device delivers electic impulses to the vagus nerve.
- Responsive Neurosimulation Device (RNS®): Responsive Neurostimulation (also known as the RNS® System by NeuroPace) is a device that can monitor and respond to brain activity, ultimately stimulating the brain to quickly stop seizures or prevent seizures from starting.
- Botox injection (for the management of spasticity): Botox® injections provide relief from painful spasticity symptoms by blocking the chemical signal between nerves and muscles that makes the muscle tighten.
- Ketogenic Diet Program: The ketogenic diet (KD) is a high fat, low carbohydrate, protein diet used for the treatment of hard to control epilepsy when at least two more medications have been tried and not worked effectively. (This diet should only be considered for help with seizure control under the advisement of a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy and a licensed dietician who will correctly calculate, monitor and adjust the diet for each individual.)
