Dr. Rachel YanRachel Yan, MD

Hometown:
Austin, Texas

About Me:
I studied biomedical engineering at the Unversity of Texas at Austin and then got my medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Now I am completely thrilled and honored to be able to continue my training here in Fresno at Valley Children’s!

Why I Chose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program:
Caring supportive learning environment, large vast catchment area. Knowing that I will come out of training experienced and knowledgeable. Being within 1-2 hours from Yosemite, Sequoia, snow and ski parks, AND even the beach. Not having to deal with traffic but still having all my essential needs here in town.

Hobbies:
Out of shape runner, hiking and being outside, live music aficionado, wanna-be world traveler, and proud fur-parent to a Siberian Husky.

Advocacy, Interests and Research Accomplishments:
I am interested in immunotherapeutic research, medical entrepreneurship/start-ups and working with children with high acuity illnesses and complex medical needs.

Care Philosophy:
I went through my own medical problems as a teenager that resulted in lung surgery. I came out of the experience with a curiosity in medicine. That has rapidly progressed into a passion in my life. I love the optimism, creativity and resilience that children have, and I feel very honored to be working in a field where I am continuously inspired and motivated by my own patients.
