Board certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Edsel Arce-Hernandez joined Valley Children’s in July 2006 as a pediatric rheumatologist. He dedicated eight years to the research of childhood lupus. His work has been published in numerous journals including the “Journal of Immunology,” “Journal of Human Immunology,” “Science, Arthritis & Rheumatism” and “Current Opinion in Rheumatology.” He is a member of The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA).

Prior to joining Valley Children’s, Dr. Arce-Hernandez served as assistant professor of pediatrics at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and assistant professor of pediatrics in the Pediatric Rheumatology Department at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.

After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Dr. Arce-Hernandez completed a residency in pediatrics at University Pediatric Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Dr. Arce-Hernandez is fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language.
