Board eligible by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Deric Nye joined the pediatric orthopaedics team at Valley Children’s in September 2019.

Dr. Nye has a special interest in caring for and treating traumatic injuries. Prior to joining Valley Children’s, he worked as a sports medicine team physician for Toledo Public High Schools in Toledo, Ohio and brings a wealth of knowledge in the field of sports medicine and exercise physiology. Dr. Nye also has experience treating children with neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy, myelodysplasia, muscular dystrophy at Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Nye is a member of the American Academy Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and the American Osteopathic Association. He is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support and pediatric advanced life support and has participated in field-related lectures and presentations.

Dr. Nye received a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio and a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery through Shriners Hospitals for Children in Portland, Oregon.

In his spare time, Dr. Nye enjoys giving back to the community through volunteerism, especially by coaching youth sports teams. He enjoys spending time with his wife and four children by keeping busy with activities including ultimate Frisbee, snowboarding, reading and enjoying music. His native language is English but he is also fluent in Spanish.
