Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Cheryl Cipriani joined Valley Children’s in January 2013 as a neonatologist.

With more than 30 years’ experience, Dr. Cipriani came to Valley Children’s from Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas, where she served as medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for four years. Key accomplishments during her tenure included developing effective multidisciplinary committees within the NICU, including those that significantly reduced incidences of central line infection and ventilator-associated pneumonia. She also brought selective head and total body cooling, near-infrared spectroscopy, and banked breast milk to the NICU. In addition, Dr. Cipriani was instrumental in opening a new level II NICU at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, Texas, and helped launch a neonatal-perinatal fellowship at Scott and White.

Prior to this role, Dr. Cipriani was director of the International Health Certificate Program at Texas A&M University College of Medicine in College Station, Texas, the same program she previously developed as an associate professor of pediatrics at Texas A&M. She was also a full professor of pediatrics at Texas A&M.

Dr. Cipriani has presented internationally on numerous topics in her field. She has published her work in various peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Research, and Clinical Pediatrics.

She has also received various honors, including being listed in “Who’s Who Among American Physicians” (2007), “Guide to America’s Top Pediatricians” (2009), and “The Leading Physicians of the World” (2010 and 2012). She was recognized as an outstanding lecturer by Osler Institute in 2008.

Dr. Cipriani is a member of several professional organizations, including American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Specialty Medical Group.

Dr. Cipriani received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed her internship in pediatrics, residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.

In her free time, Dr. Cipriani likes to hike, ski and cook.
