Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Arunima Bera joined Valley Children’s as a hospitalist in July 2020, serving patients at Sierra View Hospital in Porterville.

Dr. Bera comes to Valley Children’s from Mattel Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, where she was serving as a pediatric and neonatal critical care transport team physician as part of her fellowship program in pediatric critical care.  

After receiving her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Dr. Bera completed a pediatric residency at the University of Buffalo/Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the University of California Los Angeles/Mattel Children’s Hospital. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association.

Her contributions to research and medical education have been recognized by several professional organizations. One such recognition came in 2019, when Dr. Bera was awarded the Young Investigator Research Award by the American College of Chest Physicians for her presentation of research at their annual meeting in New Orleans, where she gave an oral presentation on the association of serum intra-cellular adhesion molecule (ICAM-1) levels with clinical outcomes such as mortality and severity of illness in pediatric patients with sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Dr. Bera has also conducted research and presented on other respiratory illnesses, such as bronchiolitis and asthma. 

Dr. Bera is an ardent supporter of the arts; she frequently gives vocal performances hosted by the Indian Embassy in Qatar, and was a regular performer at student talent shows while in medical school.

Dr. Bera is fluent in English, Hindi and Bengali.
