Double-boarded in internal medicine and infectious diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and board certified in pediatric infectious diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Daniel Boken joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric infectious disease specialist in September 2012. With about 20 years’ experience, his areas of special interest include nosocomial infections and infection prevention.

Prior to coming to Valley Children’s, Dr. Boken held several concurrent positions, including: infectious disease consultant, Tulare County Infectious Diseases; medical director, infection control and hospital epidemiology, Kaweah-Delta Health Care District, Visalia; director, infection control, Sierra View District Hospital, Porterville; director, infection control, Tulare District Hospital; and associate director, infection control, Hanford Community Hospital.

Dr. Boken has published in peer-reviewed publications such as Clinical Infectious Diseases, The Journal of Infectious Diseases and The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Dr. Boken has presented across the country on numerous topics in his field. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics; American College of Physicians; and Society for Health Care Epidemiology of America.

Dr. Boken received his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, in Omaha, Neb. He did a combined residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Creighton University affiliated hospitals in Omaha. He completed a fellowship in infectious diseases of adults, departments of medical microbiology and internal medicine, and a fellowship in infectious diseases of children, department of pediatrics, both at Creighton University School of Medicine.

In his free time, Dr. Boken enjoys spending time with his family, windsurfing, playing volleyball and volunteering in the community.
