Board certified in pediatric cardiology and pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. James Prochazka is the medical director of cardiology at Valley Children’s. He has practiced pediatric cardiology with Valley Children’s for about 40 years and has had an unarguable impact on Central California’s pediatric population.

A proven physician leader, Dr. Prochazka has served as chief of staff and chair of the Education Committee as well as the Department of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Valley Children’s. He is on the board of directors for ChildNet Medical Associates, Inc., and he is also president of Pediatric Cardiology Medical Associates of Central California, which is affiliated with Valley Children’s Healthcare. Valley Children’s has honored him with the Board of Trustees Meritorous Service Award and the Residency Teaching Award.

In addition to his years of experience in pediatric cardiology, Dr.  Prochazka’s career includes providing numerous lectures in pediatric cardiology for physicians and healthcare providers and academic service, including clinical instructor and assistant clinical professor positions with the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.

Dr. Prochazka is a member of several professional societies including the Western Society of Pediatric Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and the Fresno-Madera Medical Society. He is a fellow of The American Academy of Pediatrics and The American College of Cardiology. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.

An active member in the community, Dr. Prochazka has served on the board of directors for the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Orpheus Chamber Music Ensemble, Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts, and the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra.

Graduating from The University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Prochazka completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center at the Travis Air Force Base in California, where he served as chief resident. He did a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center.

Dr. Prochazka and his wife Maria Helena enjoy and support classical music performance in the Valley. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Lisa and Tana.
