Board certified in general surgery, surgical critical care and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Shannon L. Castle, FACS, FAAP joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric surgeon in 2018. 

Prior to Valley Children’s, Dr. Castle worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and as a clinical instructor at University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Dr. Castle’s clinical and research interests include pediatric trauma, critical care and nutrition. She is actively involved in her professional network as a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Pediatric Surgical Association, Pediatric Trauma Society, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and Association for Academic Surgery. Dr. Castle has shared her expertise in various lectures, abstracts, presentations, chapters and multiple peer-reviewed publications including the Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Journal of Surgical Research and Laboratory Investigation.

Dr. Castle earned her medical degree from University of California, San Diego where she also completed her residency in general surgery. She went on to complete fellowships in surgical critical care, pediatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Research

Dr. Castle's research interests focus on pediatric trauma, critical care and injury prevention.


Additional Information

  • Dr. Castle serves as Medical Director for Trauma at Valley Children's Hospital and is active in regional trauma collaboration and education. She is active in teaching UCSF-Fresno surgical residents as well as the pediatric trainees at Valley Children's.
