Board certified in plastic surgery, hand surgery and general surgery, Dr. Peter Witt, medical director, pediatric plastic surgery, joined Valley Children’s in 2002 as medical director, pediatric plastic surgery after more than a decade in academic plastic surgery. With more than 25 years’ experience in his field, he has expertise in pediatric cleft-craniofacial surgery, congenital hand surgery and vascular anomalies.

As part of a team that performs about 1,100 procedures a year, Dr. Witt has had an unarguable impact on Central California’s pediatric population. Given his expertise in cleft lip and palate repair, he takes a personal interest in post-palatoplasty speech dysfunction. His practice operates a Craniofacial Clinic that has about 2,000 visits a year and uses a team-based approach in accordance with the American Cleft Palate Association (ACPA) standards. The Pediatric Plastic Surgery Division also specializes in hand surgery and many other procedures, including vascular lesions and trauma.

Dr. Witt has presented on topics in his field across the country and internationally. He has published his work extensively, including in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The Annals of Plastic Surgery and The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal. He has editorial responsibilities for various related publications.

He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Association for Surgery of the Hand, American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, American College of Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has also served on numerous associated national committees.

Dr. Witt voluntarily shares his expertise with other children around the world who otherwise would not have access to specialized pediatric care, including children in China, North Korea, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, Africa, Bangladesh and more.

After completing his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, Dr. Witt received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his residencies in general surgery at University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, and in plastic and reconstructive surgery at University of California, Irvine College of Medicine, in Irvine, California.

Dr. Witt places high value in faith and family and spends free time with his wife and their five children.
