Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology, Dr. Karla Au Yeung joined Valley Children’s as the pediatric program director for the new Valley Children’s pediatric residency program and as a pediatric gastroenterologist in April 2016. Her areas of special interest in gastroenterology include pediatric aerodigestive problems, including gastroesophageal reflux disease affecting respiratory and feeding conditions in children, eosinophilic esophagitis, esophageal motility disorders, and congenital esophageal disorders such as esophageal atresia.

Dr. Au Yeung came to Valley Children’s from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she served as medical director, pediatric endoscopy; assistant professor of pediatrics; and co-director of the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinic, in Baltimore, Maryland, since 2008. Prior to Johns Hopkins, she worked for six years as a member of the pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition faculty at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in various roles. From 2004 to 2005, she also served as a medical officer in the U.S. Army at Camp Cedar II in Iraq. With more than 20 years’ experience, Dr. Au Yeung was named “Top Doctor” in Baltimore in 2014 and 2015.

Dr. Au Yeung has presented on topics in her field across the country and published in peer-reviewed publications such as “Ambulatory Pediatrics,” “Clinical Pediatrics,” and “Journal of the American Medical Association, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.”

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Dr. Au Yeung received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. She did her internship in pediatrics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and her residency in pediatrics at National Capital Consortium, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Washington, D.C.  She did her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, and reading.
