Double-board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Chetan Sharma joined Valley Children’s in 2022 as a pediatric cardiologist at Eagle Oaks Specialty Care Center in Bakersfield.
Dr. Sharma comes to Valley Children’s from Baylor College of Medicine, where he was an assistant professor of pediatrics and an attending physician at Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in Texas. He is passionate about leadership and team building, especially within medical education, to develop and empower the next generation of pediatric healthcare leaders.
After earning his medical degree at Kasturba Medical College at Manipal University in India, Dr. Sharma completed a residency in pediatrics at Marshfield Medical Center through St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wisconsin. He continued specialized training as a cardiology fellow at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health through Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Sharma’s research has been published in several academic and peer-reviewed publications, including Cardiology in the Young, Progress in Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Rhythm. Dr. Sharma has also presented his research in oral and poster presentations at a variety of physician conferences and symposiums. His recent research has focused on arrhythmias, electrocardiographic abnormalities and other complications following COVID-19 infection, and he is currently involved in ongoing studies on multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C).
In addition to his published research, Dr. Sharma currently serves as a review editor for Frontiers in Pediatrics, a peer-reviewed journal that covers a broad range of topics, conditions and subspecialty research related to pediatric healthcare.
In his personal time, Dr. Sharma enjoys aerobic exercise and yoga.
