Neuro-Oncology Program

A tumor in the brain can damage a child’s long-term development, potentially affecting their personality, ability to function and growth. We treat a broad range of brain and spinal cord conditions, including astrocytomas, glioblastomas, medulloblastomas and neurofibromatosis.

To improve diagnosis and treatment, our neuro-oncologist, Dr. Audrey Green-Murphy, brings valuable expertise as part of the diverse team – including pathology, neurosurgery, neurology, radiation oncology, psychology, physiatry, nurse navigators, therapists, and social workers – that provides patient care. With in-depth training in this specialized field, Dr. Samuel and Dr. Green-Murphy coordinate the patient’s multidisciplinary care and play a key role in determining how best to treat the brain tumor. Each week, the multidisciplinary team collectively meets during a solid tumor board to review all patients on active treatment patient scans and determines new or changes to treatment plans for each patient. This multidisciplinary team includes Valley Children’s neurologists and neurosurgeons, a team which has been recognized as one of the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report for caring for children, infants and adolescents with suspected or confirmed neurologic disorders, including brain tumors.

As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), we have access to the latest protocols for treating brain and CNS tumors. Our physicians also collaborate closely with top institutions such as University of California San Francisco (UCSF) as contributors or co-investigators in advanced clinical studies.
