Valley Children’s Infectious Disease Specialist Published in National Journal

(Madera, California) – A case series submitted by Valley Children’s pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Fouzia Naeem, in partnership with colleagues from the California Department of Public Health, was recently published in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal.

The article describes coccidiodomycosis (commonly known Valley fever) in the pediatric population and details how clinical findings, diagnosis and management of Valley fever differ in children compared to adults.

The research concludes by saying that in areas where the incidence of Valley fever is high – such as California’s Central Valley – increased awareness and vigilance among families and healthcare providers are crucial to early diagnosis and care.

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal is a monthly research publication of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases. It highlights clinical research and diagnostic innovations advancing the field of pediatric infectious disease.

Dr. Fouzia Naeem joined Valley Children’s as a pediatric infectious disease specialist in July 2012. She collaborates with Valley Children’s other board-certified and fellowship-trained team of pediatric infectious disease specialists to improve care for our young patients with Valley fever.
