Injury Prevention Program
Valley Children's is focused on reducing intentional and unintentional injuries throughout our service area. The Hospital's Injury Prevention Program sponsors or supports a number of projects throughout the year in partnership with other community organizations or initiatives. The Hospital's Trauma Coordinator provides leadership of the program and is helped by nursing staff volunteers at community-based educational events. Members of the Hospital's Trauma Program provide presentations to other health care providers, professional groups and parent groups teaching on a variety of pediatric topics including:
- Pediatric Trauma
- Child Maltreatment
- Shaken Baby Syndrome
- The Choking Game
- General Pediatric Safety
The Hospital's Trauma Program has developed a helmet safety video that the Hospital provides free to schools and other community groups throughout the Central Valley.
In 2007, injury prevention instruction was given to 4,455 children and families participating in 37 community events. Pediatric trauma and injury prevention instruction was provided to 1,642 individuals at 45 different venues.
