Leadership In Professional Nursing Organizations

Children’s Hospital nurses participate and provide leadership in various professional nursing organizations. In addition, nurses took the initiative to establish local chapters in support of professional collaboration, education and advocacy. Leadership was provided by Kathleen Remner, RN, and Annie Dennis, RN, in the development of the local Chapter of the National Society of Pediatric Nurses (SPN). Several NICU RNs from Children's Hospital, Kamela Loo, RN; Bonnie Roe, RN; Leslie Williams, RN; Linda Bitcon, RN; and Richard Twohey, RN; were instrumental in establishing the Central California Association of Neonatal Nurses (CCANN) as a chapter of National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) and served as the first board members. The Central California Association of Neonatal Nurses (CCANN) was awarded the 2009 Award for Chapter Communications by NANN. Denise DeFendis, RN and Fran Buchnoff, RN, were part of the team of nurses who established the Local Chapter of Perianesthesia Nurses
