Visitors and employees of Children's Hospital Central California will notice a colorful change to the Hospital’s visitation policy. For the safety and security of our young patients, anyone on or within our property without a Hospital-issued ID badge must wear an identifying wristband. Effective immediately, all visitors – adults and children, patient and non-patient – will receive a wristband from our security staff upon entry to the Hospital. These wristbands will demonstrate health clearance and identify authorized visiting areas.
Please note there are new designs and colors:
Lime Green wristband – Dated band provided to adult or child, completing the security health screening for runny nose, fever >100, rash, diarrhea, cold, cough, or vomiting, for access to general care, outpatient, ambulatory areas.
Lime Green Checker wristband – Dated band provided to adult or child completing health screening, but stated having experienced cough or fever in the last 24 hours. These visitors are offered a mask to be worn while they are in the general care, outpatient, ambulatory, or hospital business areas.
Neon Pink wristband – “Common/Public Area” wristband issued to visitors with no identified patient care need at the hospital; limited business need requiring access to common areas (for example: conference room/center visitors), or limited personal business in other common/public areas (including Café, Starbucks, Gift Shop or restrooms).
Blue Stripe wristband – Issued to visitors authorized to enter the inpatient care units (Apollo, Discovery, Craycroft, PICU, NICU, Voyager, Explorer, Rehabilitation Center)
In addition to the new wristbands, our updated visitation policy includes important changes to keep us in compliance with recent federal legislation. New laws guarantee patients (and/or parents) the right to designate visitors as “alternate caregivers.” Hospitals do not have the right to discriminate against any designated visitor.
Children’s Hospital encourages visitation by all primary and alternate caregivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A primary caregiver is a legal adult identified by the patient’s family as the responsible guardian for the patient. The primary caregiver may be a biological parent, adoptive parent, foster parent, or other legal guardian. An alternate caregiver is a legal adult authorized by the primary caregiver to visit the patient, but unauthorized to receive medical information.
For the safety and security of our patients and staff, general visitation by all other patient visitors is recommended only between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.
A person on or within Hospital property conducting business or engaging in activities not directly related to a patient is considered a non-patient visitor. Visitation by non-patient visitors (i.e. vendors) is normally confined to regular business hours, but may take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. All non-patient visitors must clearly display a company name badge or a visitor badge/pass, and must remain in the areas in which they have business. We ask all non-patient visitors to leave Hospital property promptly at the completion of their business.
- Children’s Hospital has enhanced our security to include indentifying all visitors – adults and children, patient and non-patient – with a wristband.
- Our new wristbands are color-coded to indicate authorized access and health screening for each visitor.
- We grant patient families the right to define primary caregivers and designate alternate caregivers.
- We permit those identified as alternate caregivers to enjoy the same hours of access as primary caregivers.
