Children's Hospital Central California has been awarded the designation of “Center of Excellence” for achieving 26 levels of competency related to sterile processing. Children’s is the only hospital to earn the designation this year.
Children’s uses the computer information system Sterile Processing Microsystem in the Sterile Processing Department to ensure strict processes are followed for instrument sterilization and tracking. Careful attention to both provides the safest-possible surgical environment for patients.
The award is provided by Materials Management Microsystems, Inc. which uses a rigorous test of 26 measures of competency to determine if customers qualify for recognition.
The hospital was recognized for surpassing set requirements. Sterile processing educator Cheron Rojo spearheaded Children’s efforts to excel in this area.
Children’s uses this software to help manage the department efficiently in areas such as asset management, employee training, productivity and accountability, sterilization and quality assurance. Children’s has reached a high level of proficiency in use of the software, which has earned the hospital this title.
