After a year of dedicated effort across the organization, Children's Hospital Central California implemented an ambulatory electronic medical record (EMR) in our outpatient physician-based practices on Sept. 24. The change enables Children's to enhance care and provide more comprehensive, timely patient information by allowing users to access patient records anytime online through a secure Internet connection.
Athenahealth replaces Meditech in the outpatient physician-based subspeciality practices. Meditech continues to serve as the documentation source for our inpatient medical records and other Hospital-based outpatient areas, including the emergency department, surgery, medical imaging, laboratory, and Hospital-based therapies and testing areas.
This landmark transition to an ambulatory EMR continues our journey toward a completely integrated EMR, and enables more efficient workflow within the practices to better serve our patients and healthcare partners.
As an added benefit, upon stabilizing processes and working through transition issues following the go-live with athenahealth, Children's Hospital plans to implement patient/family portal access to the ambulatory EMR to enhance patient/family engagement in their care.
Children's Hospital looks forward to announcing the portal's launch to your members in the upcoming months.
