Children throughout the Central Valley recently had the unique opportunity to help create a multi-dimensional mosaic wall sculpture that will be displayed in the newly constructed Children's Hospital Central California Paramount Farms Plaza. The 60,000 square-foot expansion is located on the western end of Children’s Hospital and will open in spring 2011.
The expansion allows Children’s Hospital to grow its Emergency Department (ED), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Surgical Suites and Imaging Center. The first floor of the three-story expansion includes eight new emergency major-care exam rooms and two trauma rooms. Children’s ED is connected to its Imaging Center, which will receive a third MRI room and another diagnostic X-ray suite. The second floor will expand the Hospital’s surgical and critical care capabilities, providing up to four new operating rooms and eight PICU rooms.
Children attending the September 11 Visalia Taste the Arts Festival showed off their creative skills by making fish and a river background using colorful tiles, both of which will be the key features of the sculpture.
This past summer, children attending the City of Fresno's Summer Fitness Camp and Camp Sunshine Dreams, a non-profit camp for children with cancer, also contributed to the creation of the sculpture.
Children's Hospital has contracted with Distinctive Art Source to facilitate development of all the artwork for the Paramount Farms Plaza.
