Tasty Tacos a Treat for Teams

Taco Bell truck visits Children's for a special lunch 


The Taco Bell truck – which travels to events and employee groups throughout the country – rolled into Children’s Hospital Central Taco Bell Truck serves tacos to construction workersCalifornia, serving more than 500 Crunchy Fiesta Tacos to patients and families, Children’s staff as well as construction workers and sub-contractors completing the Hospital’s west expansion.

The special lunch, served by local Taco Bell restaurant employees, was in celebration of the progress of Children’s expansion project and a donation by the Taco Bell Foundation to the Hospital’s Child Life Teen Room.

The Taco Bell Foundation contributed $26,362 to the Hospital’s teen program through a grant awarded in February 2010. Child Life is in the Children's employee reaches for tacoprocess of creating an area dedicated to teen patients, thanks to the gift from the popular food chain.

“Taco Bell chose to come here to Children’s Hospital because of our longstanding relationship with them locally through fundraising activities that we do together,” said Teri Amerine, Children’s Foundation director of annual giving.

Children’s Board of Trustee and Foundation Board Member Dave Olson, president of OCAT, Inc., a leading Taco Bell franchise in Central California, supports the Hospital Taco Bell team prepares 500 tacos for Children'slocally. Over the past five years, Olson has sponsored the Children’s Hospital Golf Tournament and an annual Icon Campaign – where customers purchase $1 circular icons displayed with their name – in 90 restaurants from Bakersfield to Modesto to San Luis Obispo. These events have raised nearly $850,000 for the Hospital since their inception. With a goal of $200,000, this year’s Icon Campaign – August 2 through September 5 – will put Taco Bell’s contributions to Children’s Hospital at over $1,000,000.
