Movie Night at Children’s

Granville Homes hosts special night for Children’s Hospital patients and families


More than 400 patients, families and staff enjoyed a fun summer evening on the back lawn at Children’s Hospital Central George the Giraffe with patientCalifornia. Granville Homes hosted a movie night on the back lawn of Children’s Hospital for patients and their families.

“We are proud to team up with Children’s Hospital and bring the Granville Homes’ Movies in the Park here,” said Darius Assemi, president of Granville Homes and a longstanding Hospital supporter. “It’s really an opportunity to bring patients and their parents, physicians and staff together and have a great outing and give everyone a chance to take a break from the stressful day they are going through as patients, nurses and physicians.”Darius Assemi president of Granville Homes with George and Jim Meinert

The local homebuilder provided carnival games, prizes, face painting, clowns, dinner and handed out T-shirts celebrating the event. At dusk they projected the family-friendly animated movie “Planet 51” onto a 20-foot screen in the back of Children’s, as families sprawled out on blankets on the Hospital’s plush lawn. Granville Homes also provided goodie bags for the patients that were not able to attend.

“It’s part of our commitment to the Valley and we’re glad to host this George the giraffe greets familyevent for the children,” said Assemi. “Movies in the Park is a program that we started about four years ago in our [Granville Homes] neighborhoods, where our homeowners gather on a Friday evening and watch a movie with their family. It brings families together.”

Over the years, Granville Homes has been a major Children’s supporter for Hospital events including Kids Day, Radiothon and Harvest Ball.

Campaign for Children’s Co-Chairs Bill and Linda Smittcamp were also Bill Smittcamp, Darius Assemi and Foundation Leadershipon-hand at the event. Bill Smittcamp, president of Wawona Frozen Foods and a Children’s Board of Trustee and Foundation Board Member, introduced and thanked Assemi prior to the start of the movie. Bill also donated strawberry fruit cups to accompany the free dinner for everyone in attendance.
